Dolos on Eureka, California's North Jetty. Concrete shapes used to keep the ocean waves from washing away the breakwater. Each leg is giant... about 6 feet long.
The dolos was designed by Aubrey Kruger in 1966.
Kruger was draughtsman in the East London, South Africa harbour engineer's office.
Aubrey took the three pieces of broomstick wood, a few nails and knocked together what looked like an "H" with one leg turned through 90 degrees. http://www.dispatch.co.za/1999/06/28/features/FAME.HTM
