Headwaters Forest Reserve is a day use only park near Eureka, California. The rangers have built a nice bicycle path and it is very popular with people on wheels. The old growth redwoods are a few miles hike in so skateboarding or bike riding is the best way to get there.
This picture was taken on Elk river road on the way to the park. Rural working farms with horses, cows and even deer wandering thru the fields. my friend stopped to take a picture of an old watertower.
The land surrounding the Headwaters Forst has been logged often since the 1800's. Here is a burnt stump in a farmers field.
The first mile of trail inside the park goes by the abandoned logging town... Here is a giant stump of an old growth redwood overgrown with ferns.
some giants still remain...
The brand new bicycle trail into the Headwaters. This trail is very popular with ladies pushing baby buggies, kids on bikes and skateboards... And, it is very very quiet... the giant trees absorb sound...
Thanks to the taxpayers of the State of California, this area is a playground for kids instead of being logged to provide profit to MAXXAM. GOOD JOB, Diane Feinstein and others...
